This is a link to our flickr album with the photos from the trip to Old San Juan and the 16th century fort that we visited. It was an amazing sight to see. Really makes you wonder how something of this size was built. I did take them around 250 years to complete. I had no idea why such a thing would have been needed until I read that Puerto Rico was the first island in the Atlantic that was discovered to have both fresh water and a safe port making it a very valuable position to hold. The fort was built by the Mexican government and was successful in fending off the Spanish on several occassions. The walls of the fort were built so that in the event of an attack the entire populate of the island could gather within them and be protected. Pretty cool stuff!
Our Life
This is a short video I put together showing off the 16th century fort that Angie and I toured today. It’s a massive facility. I’ve got a ton of photos of it and plan to pull them off and build a flicker album for them at some point tonight. I’ll link that up as soon as I have it ready.
We just returned from our first dip in the ocean. The water was fantastic! We stayed till the tide started to come in. The waves got BIG. Pretty sure we are going to make this a daily event. The beach near our hotel is a bit junky so I think we may end up going down the coast line a bit to find a more secluded and better kept beach. All in all it was a blast. I think we are going to buy some snorkeling gear tomorrow as well. Now we are off to the dinner and the casino!
We be here!
So today is day 1 in San Juan. Last night was fun. We found a little bar / resturant and had a few margaritas and dinner. Today we got our rental car and did our best to navigate around town. Easier said than done. San Juan is a cool city. The people seem to be very nice and laid back. The music is cool too. Lots of hip hop and EDM. I heard some tracks that I’ve played in the club for a few years now. Looks like they have a very healthy dance music scene down here. Big bill boards everywhere promoting events that I could only dream of going down in Little Rock.
We are getting ready for our first trip to the beach (well that’s not true we went and checked it out last night but it wasn’t time to get in the water). I’ll try and get some pictues and a little bit of video to share this evening. When we get done at the beach I think we are going to walk down to the casino and see what kind of damage we can do there. Having a blast! Hope everyone back home is doing well.
